Day 1, 29th June 2013

Day 1, 29th June 2013
New Delhi to Jammu
Distance Covered: 650 Kms
Route taken: New Delhi-Karnal-Ambala-Ludhiana-Jalandhar-Dasuya-Pathankot-Jammu

Could hardly get sleep for a few hours. Got up at 2:30 AM and started to pack things up. Was ready by 3:30 AM and headed down to pack the luggage on the vehicle. Mounting the Cramster Stallion saddle bag was quite easy with the only problem was trying the tarpaulin sheet with the rope. Anyway , was all set to leave at 4 AM.

Tuhin flagging my Trip :)

The bull with the Rider

Had a tough time finding the way to NHI (GT Road). Took me almost an hour to hit the NHI1. Tanked up at a HP petrol pump for Rs. 600. Met Nikhil and Deepak at the junction who where going to be my travel buddies Now, it was time to open the throttle. I had made a good decision to leave early as it was like heaven driving with a cool breeze.
The initial 50-60kms just went by and I had already started enjoying the drive. Was maintaining a contant speed of 90-100kmph and reached Panipat by 6 AM.
Saw quite a few bikers and cars at a Dhaba and I also thought of stopping by for my B'fast. Had those yummy paranthas at Jhilmil Dhaba at Karnal and moved on from there at 7:30 AM. Within 1/2 hour reached the Pipli junction. There is quite a lot of construction which has taken place there and also a flyover is under construction there. Just can't forget the memorable time I've had at NITK.

Parantha's were really yummy.

Alma Matter
It was just a monotonous ride ahead after that with nothing much to talk about. Reached Punjab border at about 9 AM and man it was hot and I was getting dehydrated a lot. The road conditions had improved a lot with more straighter roads and fewer diversions.

Crossing Ludhiana was a real pain with the whole highway passing through the main city. Wasted almost like and hour negotiating the roads and traffic. Out next stop was planned for Haveli, Jalandhar. However, Deepaks bullet started giving some problems so they stopped by a mechanic while I moved on.
The moment I reached Haveli, there was a heavy downpour with strong winds. Haven't seen such rains for quite some time now. But, thankfully it happened at the right time and I could spend some time with my in-laws when it was raining heavily outside.
It was already 2 PM now and our target Jammu was looking distant. We still had to ride 300kms and all of us were already tired after riding 350kms. Finally, bid goodbyes to my in-laws and left at about 2:30 PM.
The ride from there was extremely boring and finally managed to reach the J&K border by 5:30 PM and managed to reach Jammu by 7PM.
Entering J&K

So finally the tough first day came to an end. Got a hotel room for Rs. 700 and all got fresh. It was feeling like heaven sitting(sorry could we sit, I doubt that :)) in the AC Room.
Jammu was all crowded as the Amarnath yatra had started just 2 days back. So we planned to leave early to avoid the traffic and slept early at 9:30 PM itself.

Petrol filled at: New Delhi, Ambala, Jalandhar and filled the tank again at Jammu for the next days ride.
